Huntington County Rescue's purpose is to save lives!  We do this by providing specially trained and equipped personnel who can effectively rescue victims from all types of incidents.  This is all done by responding swiftly and efficiently anywhere in our county.

Services We Provide

Huntington County Rescue provides quick and decisive services in the field of rescue and recovery. We assist fire departments and law enforcement agencies within Huntington county and when requested, surrounding counties.

Huntington County Rescue provides services in the following areas:

  • Extrication: Extrication is our primary function. This includes extrication of victims who have been involved in motor vehicles crashes, agricultural/farm related disentanglement, or construction related accidents.
  • Critical Incident: We respond to natural and man-made disasters. Furthermore, we respond to critical incident situations such as factory explosions. This occurred several years ago in the south industrial park
  • Water/Ice Rescue: We have expanded our services to provide water/ice rescue and open water rescue and recovery.
  • High Angle Rope Rescue: We have several members who are certified in rope rescue and repelling. This is particularly important when living in a farming community.
  • Medical/First Responder: 95% of our members are First Responder certified. Several members hold higher certification in the medical field to include EMT, Paramedic, and Nurse.
  • Law Enforcement/Fire Assistance: When requested, we provide lighting for crime scenes for law enforcement agencies and fire departments.
  • Dive Team Support: We provide support to the Huntington County Dive Team as rescue swimmers and line tenders.
  • And any other area where Huntington County Rescue’s expertise is required!

Huntington County Rescue consists of 22 volunteers with diverse types of backgrounds. These backgrounds range from the medical field as First Responders, EMT, Paramedic, and nurse; to industrial maintenance with expertise in refrigeration, propane, plumbing, and rigging; heavy machine operators, and certified tow truck extrication operators; individuals from the professional business sector to firefighters from departments within our county are on the squad. With these different types of backgrounds, it gives us the capability to provide a large range of services.

The first of which is the Salamonie Reservoir. This reservoir consists of 11,594 acres to include a 2,855 acre lake. The second Reservoir is J. Edward Roush Lake. This reservoir consists of 8,217 acres and also includes an 870 acre lake. We have over 100 industries in Huntington County and more than 700 farms covering 188,000 acres.

The basis from which this organization was formed in 1972 was vehicle extrication; however, over the course of 35 years we have expanded our capabilities to provide excellent rescue services to the citizens of Huntington County and all who travel its highways.
